Danger Mouse Dark Night of the Soul Is A Bit Torrent Hit

One of the greatest albums of 2009 wasn`t even released. It was the Dangermouse/Sparklehorse/David Lynch collaboration `Dark Night of the Soul` currently unavailable due to a legal dispute but readily found on Bit-Torrent sites.

The album was to accompany a book featuring a collection of original photos by David Lynch.

All of the songs were written, composed and produced by Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse and feature guest vocalists including Wayne Coyne, Julian Casablancas, Black Francis, Iggy Pop, Susanne Vega and Gruff Rhys.

A statement at the official website DNOTS.com reads “Due to an ongoing dispute with EMI, Danger Mouse is unable to release the recorded music for Dark Night Of The Soul without fear of being sued by EMI”.

The loop-hole to get Dark Night Of The Soul out was to release a limited edition book at the website and include a blank CD-R. The CD is labelled “For Legal Reasons, enclosed CD-R contains no music. Use it as you will”.

Falling short of endorsing the bit-torrent download, a statement at the site says “Danger Mouse remains hugely proud of Dark Night Of the Soul and hopes that people lucky enough to hear the music, by whatever means, are as excited by it as he is”.
