Cheap Trick To Play Sgt Pepper In Vegas

by Paul Cashmere - January 14 2009

It looks like Cheap Trick has scored a 9-month residency at the Hilton in Las Vegas, performing the entire `Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band` album.

With The Beatles ‘Love’ a stalwart of the strip at The Mirage, a second Vegas Beatles show will make Vegas a must visit destination for Beatles fans who also don’t mind splashing the cash on a roulette wheel and drinking margueritas while walking down a main street.

The Las Vegas Review Journal says the Cheap Trick deal with The Hilton is close.

It would start in March and run until the end of the year.

Cheap Trick performed Sgt Pepper in August 2007 at the Hollywood Bowl. Reviews were fantastic.

The band has been tied to The Beatles for decades. They have released their own version of ‘Magical Mystery Tour’ and contributed (but were later dropped) from John Lennon’s ‘Double Fantasy’ album.

Speculation as to why the band was removed from the Lennon sessions is still not clear. The popular story is that they had a disagreement with Yoko so she replaced them with studio musicians.

Three songs are known to exist with Cheap Trick backing Lennon. One is up on YouTube.

Check out the unreleased Lennon & Cheap Trick version of ‘I’m Losing You’.
