School Girl Faryl Smith Scores Biggest Ever Record Deal For A Child

by Music-News.com - December 13 2008

Faryl Smith is 13 year olds. She is also the newest star to sign to Universal Music for a massive deal.

The Classical star has signed to Universal Classics and Jazz for ?ú2.3 million.

After strong competition for Faryl?ÇÖs signature, the 13 year old has signed the most valuable contract ever awarded to such a young artist - a multi-album deal worth ?ú2.3 million.

First showcasing her talents on Britain?ÇÖs favourite talent show on national television in May, Faryl immediately caught the eye of record company bosses who have fought for her signature.

Watched by her idol and mentor, Katherine Jenkins, Faryl signed the contract at the Royal Albert Hall before preparing for her debut performance at the iconic venue alongside Katherine. They sang Silent Night together before Katherine left the stage for Faryl?ÇÖs Amazing Grace.

'I first met Faryl when she won a competition in Wales,' commented Katherine, 'I knew then she would be a star. When I saw her on Britain?ÇÖs Got Talent this year, I knew she had become even better. She?ÇÖs 'one in a million?ÇÖ, a great girl with an incredible voice. I came from a small town too and all of a sudden had this amazing career unfolding in front of me. It?ÇÖs been so great to follow her progress and I?ÇÖm thrilled to keep being on hand for advice.'

The youngster is busy recording her debut album (in between school work), which will be released in March 2009.

'It?ÇÖs all just so overwhelming,' said Faryl, 'I?ÇÖm honoured to be joining such a fantastic record company, especially since it?ÇÖs where Katherine started. She has been brilliant, there?ÇÖs so much to learn and she will always take my calls, I feel much better knowing she is around.

'People keep asking me what I?ÇÖll do with the money. My family are all Manchester United fans, but we can?ÇÖt quite afford that so my Dad is thinking of buying Kettering Town instead!

'But this is about the opportunity of a lifetime for me, singing is my passion and to be given the opportunity to make a career of it at such a young age is a dream come true.'
