Former Ramones drummer Marky Ramone has a new band. He calls it Marky Ramones Blitzkreig.
Marky, real name Marc Bell, was also a former member of Dust and Richard Hell and the Voidoids.
He earned himself the Ramone surname when he replaced Tommy Ramone as drummer in the New York punk band in 1978. Marky’s tenure in The Ramones was from 1978 to 1983 and then again from 1987 until the end of the band in 1996.
A year earlier, he also became immortalised as a character in The Simpsons. He appeared in the episode ‘Rosebud’.
Oh yeah … Blitzkreig. Marky’s new band will perform shows across Europe later this month. Dates are LaGabbia Music Club in Padova, Italy (Nov. 26), Student Cultural Center in Belgrade, Serbia (Nov. 27), Taksirat Festival in Skopje, Macedonia (Nov. 29), Venue B-Side in Cosenza, Italy (Dec. 1) and Mylos Club in Salonica, Greece (Dec. 5).
