AC/DC `Black Ice` is not only the biggest selling album of the week in Australia, it is the biggest selling album of the year. 83,855 copies of `Black Ice` sold last week in the first full week of sales.
The album was the third biggest seller of the previous week on just one day sales, so adding in the additional 7265 sales which occurred pre-release while still on embargo, `Black Ice` has done over 91,000 units to date in Australia, earning it its first platinum stripe. (Platinum is 70,000 in Australia but the recording industry award based on what is produced and shipped to stores, not what you buy, so the title has a premature triple platinum certification currently).
The take-up of `Black Ice` this past week was so massive that sales in New South Wales alone (26937) beat the number two album nationally, `Only By The Night’ by Kings of Leon (26884).
Because AC/DC do not allow downloads, no digital sales were recorded for ‘Black Ice’. The 83k figure is purely for CD sales.
Despite the AC/DC policy of no downloads, more than one third of sales if the `Back In Black` album in Australia this week were via sold download.
