Hawaii's Jack Johnson is a surprise addition to the East Coast Blues and Roots Festival in Byron Bay this weekend.
Johnson has made an unannounced trip to Australia to perform with the Animal Liberation Orchestra at the northern New South Wales annual event.
Animal Liberation Orchestra are signed to Johnson's label Brushfire Records.
ALO are about to release their new album 'Roses & Clover' in May. The band will officially launch the release in San Francisco at the Fillmore on May 1st.
The band comprises of Zach Gill on keys, accordion, ukulele and vocals; Dan Lebowitz on guitars, percussion and vocals; Steve Adams on bass and vocals and Dave Brogan on drums and vocals.
The guys are old friends of Johnson's. They attended the University of California together more than a decade ago.
This year marks the 18th anniversary of the East Coast Blues and Roots Festival.
The festival is on this weekend.
The line-up includes Joss Stone, Ben Harper, Bonnie Raitt, Bo Diddley, Eric Burdon, Wolfmother, Missy Higgins, Taj Mahal, Paul Kelly, Kasey Chambers, Xavier Rudd, John Butler Trio, The Roots, Ozomatli, Ziggy Marley, Bela Fleck, Gomez, The Waifs, Rodriguez, Tony Joe White, Normie Rowe, Black Sorrows, Paolo Nutini, Ayo, Iain Archer, Blue King Brown, Ben Kweller, Amos Lee, The Ghostwriters, Jim Moginie and John Mayer.
